Build Your Own Ice Fishing Shack Plans Part 3.

3) Ice Fishing Shack Plans---Side Assembly

A> Place one of the sides (barrel bolt side inward) .

Using three hinges for each panel, fasten them inside to the hut. To maintain an

even height, keep the front and back panels flush with the bottom of the floor. They

fold with the hut.

B> The framework can now be erected putting the ridge poles between the sides

and screwing in a temporary screw on each end to hold them in place. These screws

will be removed after the tarp has been fastened to the framework.

C> With the frame erected, apply the canvas or tarp (you might need a helping

hand) loosely over the framework.

Start stapling the bottom of the tarp to the 8 ft.

outer floor stapling every 3" to 4" on the side panels and floor. Then, Screw the 2"x4’

fir strips over the tarp to the base. Continue stretching and stapling the tarp over the

Framework to the other side, finally screwing the 2"x4’ fir strips to the other side of

the base with the x1/2" flat top tarp screws. Use the 3" or 4" arced plywood strips on

the front and back panel tops to add durability and strength.

D> Next, cut openings in the plywood floor to the size of the auger hole you intend

to use. I made 6 - 10" square holes, 3 on each side of the shanty. The boards

removed can be screwed to a 13" piece of 1/2 or 5/8" plywood to make a cover for

each of the holes to keep out blowing snow or make more room when not fishing all

6) Ice Fishing Shack Plans---Holes

Your ice shanty is almost finished! Add a coat of paint, stain, or varnish on wooden

parts to help preserve it.

The shanty is easy to setup! Simply open the door while the shanty is collapsed.

Slide a 2x2x8 pine board (ridge support pole) into the shanty on the floor. Lift the

door while climbing inside then use the support pole on the floor to lift the other side

of the shanty. The tension between the two side walls is enough to keep the pole in

place. Get the other support pole and place it on the opposite side to complete the

setup.

Your shanty that you build from your ice fishing shack plans fits easily in the back of most pickups and trailers.

Keep in mind it is most easily unloaded/loaded and setup with two people, but can be done alone no problem.
